Characteristics of Relationships

Back

Relationships are created when an individual interacts with another individual.  When we have this interaction, it satisfies a need for the human “spirit”.  For the sake of this article, we will categorize the needs into three major attributes: emotional, physical and sexual.  These needs are the building blocks for the relationships in our lives.

It is important to note that Emotional and Sexual are two distinct categories.  To clarify, seeking sexual validation is not an emotional need.  For some people, Emotional and Sexual go hand in hand.  However, for the sake of this framework, all individuals introduced to the “relationship” are intentional and only seek to serve one attribute.

These attributes should be personalized based on the individual experience.  It is essentially the ultimate bias.  Defining personal needs requires the individual to take a sincere look at what makes them feel fulfilled. This can be hard to determine as a lot of our needs are assumed from prior life experiences, current circumstances and cultural influences.  Needs are extremely dynamic and fluctuate throughout an individual’s life.  It is difficult to understand the needs of oneself, it is even more difficult to understand the needs of someone else. In order to understand the needs of others, communication is vital.  Consistent awareness of our needs and the needs of others helps achieve more satisfactory relationships.  It is important to identify attributes that are critical to yourself which are also inherently extensions of your DNA.  “It” is the experience of  DNA attempting to replicate.  Understanding relationship dynamics thoroughly allows one to identify what is important to them for survival.  Only the individual is aware of their true reality.  In order to meet needs, one must be true in identifying which attributes satisfy them.
